Our Primary Goals

  • Develop educational programs and career development resources for visual journalists.

  • Provide opportunities for mentorship, training and development of visual journalists.

  • Create a venue for collegial fellowship, exchange ideas and share experiences.

  • Promote diversity in newsrooms.

  • Reinforce journalistic ethics keeping integrity in mind.

  • Embrace new technology and find ways to use it keeping with journalistic standards.

Initiatives over the years

  • Organize the photography and visual arts auction, proceeds of which go toward the NABJ and VTF scholarship funds.

  • Host diverse educational workshops, along with critiques and mentoring sessions at the annual NABJ convention.

  • The Moneta J. Sleet Jr. photo competition and judging.

  • Host the gala VTF reception honoring members, photo competition winners, students and educators.

  • Provide support for visual journalism interns, mentoring programs, professional workshops and collegial bonding among visual journalists throughout the year.
